Building a Dream
Laradon's Capital Campaign Project
Laradon's Alternative school is dedicated to providing services to children and adolescents from ages 5 to 21 that have a dual diagnosis of a developmental disability and a coexisting psychiatric/behavioral disorder. For nearly 65 years, Laradon has been a leader in delivering high quality, effective programs that meet students' unique and challenging needs while also fulfilling the Colorado Department of Education's academic requirements.
In 2007, Laradon was fortunate to be able to purchase the 3.7 acre vacant lot that is adjacent to our existing campus. Laradon's staff and Executive Leadership Team have developed plans to construct a new school building that will meet the unique learning needs of our students as well as provide the necessary space to serve more children.
With more classrooms, state-of-the-art technology, larger therapy areas, a full size gymnasium and media center, Laradon will be able to serve more children who need our guidance and support to become valued members of their communities. We offer a specialized curriculum and holistic approach to education. Each student has an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) to ensure his or her specific needs and goals are met. A Positive behavior management system and psychotherapy are also integral aspects of the school program.
Laradon is also committed to providing additional services to children diagnosed with autism. The Center for Disease Control estimates that 1 in 88 children is diagnosed with autism. While every case of autism is unique, there are some similarities in the learning needs of students with autism and the type of learning environment they positively respond to. Laradon has been able to create innovative programs based on the latest and most highly regarded research.
We need your help to build the dream of a new school.
Your contribution will be giving children with special needs a place to learn and grow. You will be giving a child who needs our specialized services a quality education, the promise of a bright future and inclusion in the community.
An added benefit to constructing a new school is that it will free up space on our existing campus so that we may expand our day programs for adults. The need is great and your gift will help us to serve more people who need Laradon's help.
