Laradon Cordially Invites You
Laradon announced today that the organization will host their first wine tasting event on Tuesday, November 15th, 2011, from 6:00pm-9:00pm at the Fuel Café, located at 3455 Ringsby Court #105 in Denver. This hip, funky restaurant in Denver’s River North Art District has the perfect atmosphere for this event. Guests will have the chance to taste a variety of great wines and sample delicious gourmet appetizers, while enjoying fine art and great entertainment.
The evening’s entertainment includes live music, a silent auction, and a chance to learn more about the programs offered to adults and children. Two Laradon program participants will address the audience about the impact of these valuable services in their lives. The evening will feature Jesse Ogas the Community Relations Director from ARC Thrift Stores, as emcee.
Joseph and Elizabeth Calabrese founded Laradon in 1948 after their children, Larry and Donald, were denied admission to public school because they were considered “mentally retarded” and “un-educable.” The Calabreses invested their life savings into developing the first school of its kind in Colorado for children with developmental disabilities.
Since its inception, Laradon has continued to steadily expand the scope of services to include programs for adults and youth of all ages. Laradon provides 11 programs to nearly 600 children and adults with special needs.
All proceeds from this event will support Laradon’s programs and services.
For tickets and information, please contact Annie Green at 720-974-6807. Tickets are $65/person and $40/person for Young Professionals.
Sponsors: ARC Thrift Stores, Cherry Creek Insurance, Edward Jones, EKS&H, JE Dunn Construction, Moore Quality Carpeting and Upholstery Cleaning, and Two Men with Big Hearts Moving and Storage.

25 Year Partnership with Volunteers of America is Recognized
"It is a simple front door transaction. Yet, in the meeting of eyes and smile of greeting, in the passing of food from younger hands to older, there lies a vital mutual acknowledgement: You are not alone."
This excerpt is taken from an article by Denver Post columnist, Tina Griego. She recently rode along with a Laradon Meals on Wheels crew, Annie Green, Laradon's Deputy Director and Jim White, Volunteers of America's Director of Community Affairs.
Annie and Jim have been involved in creating, building and nurturing the 25 year partnership that helps so many people in so many ways. Laradon's participants are able to be part of the community. Providing meals those in need has had an incredible impact on their lives. They are doing meaningful work helping others. The person's recieving the meals are so grateful. They enjoy having these young visitors who are bringing more than just a meal. They are showing that they care.
