Why Volunteer?

At Laradon we are inspired by the conviction that volunteerism is a powerful means of engaging people to help others to succeed.  Everyone can contribute their time, skills and knowledge through volunteer action; combined efforts can be a significant force for helping people with special needs achieve their dreams.

Volunteering can be both challenging and rewarding and require you to use your skills in a new way. You can also transfer your knowledge while gaining a greater understanding of the issues affecting people with developmental disabilities.

Volunteering is about civic engagement and belonging. It's about transforming lives, including your own. It’s about a spirit of giving and teamwork. It's about making your community and neighborhood a more welcoming and accepting place. And it’s about creating lifelong friendships and a new way of thinking about others. Those are rewards of immeasurable value.

Who are our Volunteers?

Our volunteers are individuals who want to give back to their communities and who want to be good stewards for our society and set positive examples for their children, friends and neighbors.

What do our Volunteers do?

Generally, no special skills are required to be a volunteer. On-the-job training is provided as needed. Individual talents and skills are matched with volunteer interests and work opportunities. Volunteering at Laradon, whether you’re an individual or a member of a school, church, work, civic or other group, who can volunteer for just a few hours on a single day or several hours a week, year-round, there are volunteer opportunities for you.

The Next Generation

Interest and participation in public service and volunteerism among young people has risen dramatically over the last decade.

Today's teenagers and young adults are far more likely than their predecessors to seek out ways to give back and to shape the world they will inherit. This is great news for Laradon and our society.  With more people getting involved in helping people we are creating an environment of trust, kindness and acceptance. We encourage young people to volunteer at Laradon.
