WHY ARE WE EXPANDING NOW?

In the last few years Laradon has outgrown the capacity of our existing campus, including classrooms for our children in the Alternative School and space for the adults in our day programs. Each program has a long waiting list for individuals wanting services. It is clear that Laradon offers the services and supports for which many are searching. Our programs provide individuals with a true opportunity to develop skills and talents in order to lead happy and productive lives in the mainstream of their community.

In order to serve more children and adults with developmental disabilities, Laradon needs to expand our facilities by building a new school building on property that Laradon owns, which is adjacent to our campus. When the new school building is completed, the current school buildings will be used to expand our day programs for adults. With the additional space, Laradon is committed to expanding the scope of services provided and will design new programs for an ever-changing constituency of individuals with an array of disabilities.

The new school building will be designed to promote mental health and will have a special character that is beautiful, welcoming and encouraging to learners of all abilities. The new school building will have 14 classrooms that will be spacious and equipped with state-of-the-art technology. A media center will house a computer lab and library. Large therapy areas and multi-purpose rooms will provide ample resources for teachers and therapists. A regulation-size gymnasium will provide space for physical activity and athletic events.

Laradon intends for the new building to blend harmoniously with the existing buildings on Laradon’s campus. We aim to be an exemplar of “green” building, minimizing our environmental impact.
