Alternative School
The Alternative School offers a specialized curriculum, designed to meet the needs of students with a dual diagnosis, from the ages of 5 to 21 years old, in a highly structured environment. The school facility, located on Laradon's main campus in north Denver, has 12 classrooms. There is a 1 to 2 staff/student ratio, with a maximum of eight students, a certified special education teacher and teacher's assistants in each classroom.
Every student has an individual educational plan (IEP) tailored to his or her specific needs. Instructional focus is on functional academics --reading, writing and math. Vocational training and psychotherapy are also integral aspects of the program. Students receive occupational therapy, speech therapy and music therapy.
The Alternative School program helps the students gain the necessary skills to transition to public school or community employment.
